Section outline

  • The Supporting Learning section provides schools with practical tools and resources to strengthen and adapt their teaching practice.

  • These tools are designed to support class teachers in conducting question-level analysis of their pupils’ performance in practice reading papers. By using these tools, teachers can identify which reading domains and question types are most challenging for individual pupils, enabling more targeted teaching and intervention.

    Included with the tools:

    • quick written guide to help you get started.
    • video walkthrough demonstrating how to use the tools effectively

  • These short videos share key findings from a question-level analysis of the 2025 KS2 reading test, focusing on the performance of looked-after children. Aimed at classroom teachers, they unpack which texts, domains and question types proved most challenging, and why, using clear comparisons with national outcomes.

The videos highlight practical implications for teaching reading in Year 6 and beyond, with a particular focus on vocabulary, inference, written responses and test stamina. They offer reflective prompts and actionable ideas to support vulnerable pupils, while also strengthening inclusive classroom practice for all learners.
