Children in care are a priority group for schools. Hampshire’s Virtual School works closely with education settings to promote the progress, wellbeing, and aspirations of children and young people in care.
What Can I Expect from my Child's School?
- To be invited to a termly Personal Educational Plan (PEP) meeting
- Positive and proactive partnerships with you and your child, supporting attendance, emotional wellbeing, and academic achievement
- Regular communication about your child’s progress, strengths, and any areas where support is needed
- Opportunities for your child’s voice to be heard and valued in decisions that affect their education
- Timely and targeted support to respond to any emerging needs
- Collaboration with wider services and professionals, ensuring a joined-up approach to supporting your child
What is the Role of the Social Worker in Supporting Education?
- Supporting communication and collaboration between you, the school, and other professionals
- Helping to identify and address barriers to school attendance and engagement
- Understanding how Pupil Premium Plus funding is used to support your child’s learning and wellbeing
- Ensuring relationships and pupil voice are central to all planning and support
- Contribute to the PEP process
- To initiate the Strength and Difficulties Questionnaire (SDQ)
